Autism & ADHD/ADD

Having a child with Autism or ADD/ADHD can be challenging especially when it comes to their diet. Many children on the spectrum tend to be picky eaters and some to the point where they will only eat a couple of different foods. Unfortunately these are usually foods that there body maybe reacting to. This can make meal times extremely stressful for everyone!

Cognitive and behavioral issues, poor language skills and eye contact, difficulties socializing with their peers, skin problems, aggression and defiant behavior, pain, difficulty maintaining focus and attention and digestive problems, can all be influenced by the food that they eat (or don’t eat). This population in particular are very sensitive to diet.

What’s more important is that the underlying reasons for these issues can be very different from child to child but may be the result of digestive issues, food intolerance/allergies, difficulties detoxifying, metabolic imbalances, gut dysbiosis and nutrient deficiencies.

There has been extensive research on nutrition and children on the spectrum and there have been various diets identified to be effective with this population. However what one diet maybe extremely helpful for one child can be disastrous for another.

Specific foods that your child craves and specific behaviors they exhibit can help give clues to what specific diet they need to follow … but take the stress and guess work out and get help!
